Zambia, Tanzania to sign MOU for TAZARA revitalisation

The Zambian and Tanzanian governments will tomorrow Wednesday September 4, 2024 sign a memorandum of understanding –MOU- in Beijing, China with China Railway Construction Limited –CRCC- for the revitalisation of the Tanzania – Zambia Railway Authority, TAZARA.
This follows the two governments’ commitment to revive the railway company.
And President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says TAZARA is an important infrastructure for Zambia’s economic agenda.
Speaking during a meeting with CRCC officials in Beijing China, The President thanked the company for various infrastructure projects it is doing in the country.
He encouraged the company to invest in other projects in energy and infrastructure saying government will provide the needed support.
President HICHILEMA told CRCC that government is promoting the development of key infrastructure through the public private partnership to save on the country’s resources.
ZNBC’s MERCY MWEPA reports that President HICHILEMA said through this model, the Lusaka Ndola dual carriageway project will achieve the payback on the investment much quicker than initially planned.
And CRCC Chairperson DAI HEGEN said the company is ready to cooperate with Zambia in new energy power generation projects such as solar.
He said this in view to help in addressing the power challenges that the country is facing.
