Zambia to Benefit from Predicted Rise in Copper Prices
By Mary Kachepa
A Senior Economist, Andrew Nsunge, says Zambia stands to benefit from the predicted rise in copper prices in 2025.
Mr. Nsunge says there is a need for increased Zambian businesses supplying to the mines for indigenous Zambians to benefit.
He says Zambians can also benefit by engaging more in the transportation of copper.
Mr. Nsunge told ZNBC News in a phone interview that there is a need to put in place and enforce policies that support the participation of Zambian businesses in the mining sector.
He says the projected increase in the price of copper is driven by supply constraints and an increase in demand for the creation of electric vehicles and batteries to support the green revolution.
Mr. Nsunge says the price of copper is projected to increase to 11,000 dollars per ton from the current 9,000 dollars per ton.
