Zambia to Market Energy Potential at Africa Heads of State Summit
By Ruth Chayinda
The government has called on the local energy sector to seek financing and enhance power generation capacity during the Africa Heads of State Summit slated for January 27-28 in Dar es Salaam.
Energy Minister Makozo Chikote says the biggest challenge that the private sector faces is financing, hence the decision to involve them in the forthcoming summit.
Mr. Chikote said this during a meeting jointly held with Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane, Foreign Affairs Minister Mulambo Haimbe, and the local energy sector.
Dr. Musokotwane has urged the private sector to participate in the summit and help market Zambia’s potential.
He said the licensing process for investors in the energy sector has been made efficient to encourage more players.
Meanwhile, Mr. Haimbe said his ministry will facilitate the participation of the private sector at the Energy Summit as it is an important forum for investment.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by Ministry of Energy Principal Public Relations Officer Bob Sianjalika.
