Zambia,DRC trade dispute resolution saves jobs
By Hector Simfukwe
The Mine Contractors Factory and Allied Workers Union says the resolution of the trade dispute between Zambian and DRC will save more than 4,000 jobs.
Union General Secretary, LEVY CHIMFWEMBE says the affected workers were those working for companies that manufacture beer, drinks and lime.
Mr. CHIFWEMBE says it is good that the products will now be allowed into the DRC without any restriction.
He told ZNBC that government took the concerns of the union seriously and decided to resolve the problem following concerns from the Zambian workers on how the ban was going to affect them.
And, Union President JOSEPH KASONKA said Zambia and the DRC have demonstrated that dialogue can work to resolve problems between two parties.
Mr. KASONKA also thanked government for including union leaders on the delegation that went to Congo to resolve the dispute that led to Zambia closing its borders with the DRC.
Yesterday, Zambia and the DRC held talks to resolve the issue that has led to Zambia to open borders today and allow the free movement of good between the two countries.
