Zambia’s Under-17 teams have qualified to the final of the 2024 COSAFA Championship
The Under-17 boys beat South Africa 2-1 in their semi-final clash while the Copper Princesses also made the country proud after storming the FINAL of the 2024 COSAFA U17 Girls Championship.
SIMPHIWE MLONDO gave South Africa an early lead in the first minute, but Zambia responded strongly with ABEL NYIRONGO converting a penalty in the 22nd minute to level the scores.
ROBERT BANDA sealed the victory for the defending champions with a superb goal in the 67th minute, after which play was halted for some time owing to bad weather.
The victory not only secures Zambia’s place at AFCON 2025 but also sets up an exciting final against Angola on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Copper Princesses dominated play earlier today in their 3-nil victory over Madagascar.
The dominant performance by the Copper Princesses was fueled by goals from HELLEN BANDA in the 12th minute, GRACE PHIRI in the 33rd minute, and MERCY CHIPASULA, who sealed the victory in the 79th minute.
The win marks Zambia’s fourth consecutive qualification for the tournament’s final, showcasing the team’s consistency and determination on the regional stage.
