ZEMA Issues Environmental Restoration Order to Sino Metals
The Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has issued an immediate environmental restoration order following pollution linked to Sino Metals in Kalulushi, Copperbelt Province.
Green Economy and Environment Minister, Mike Mposha, says the order aims to mitigate the environmental damage caused by the mining company.
He stated that Sino Metals has been directed to rehabilitate the affected areas, including soil restoration and afforestation efforts.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka, Mr. Mposha said his ministry is collaborating with other relevant ministries to assess the impact of the pollution on crops, soil, and aquatic ecosystems.
He further stated that the mining company should implement continuous lime dosing downstream to neutralize contaminated water bodies and prevent further pollution.
