Zambia has officially earned a slot at the 2025 Chess World Championship slated for Georgia.
This follows the latest rankings released by the International Chess Federation showing the country ranked 68th in the world out of the 197 countries that took part in the just ended World Chess Olympiads.
Chess Federation of Zambia President LESLIE CHIKUSE says Zambia is among seven African countries that will take part in next year’s World Cup.
CHIKUSE says the country which had initially not qualified will have a slot in Georgia after FIDE, the world chess governing body clarified that 20 slots offered to America and Asia were not meant for the Olympiads to determine countries that qualified to the World Cup.
He says this means five male players that took part in the Olympiads will have to battle it out for the lone World Championship slot.
