Chamber of mines, Govt resolve impasse on Minerals regulation bill
Zambia Chamber of Mines and the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development have conclusively resolved the impasse on some provisions of the Minerals Regulation Bill.
The move paves the way for the Government to proceed with the legislative process.
At a meeting held in LUSAKA today under the auspices of the Public Private Dialogue Forum framework the parties agreed to amend the Bill to address the concerns raised by mining industry stakeholders.
This is according to a joint statement obtained by ZNBC News this evening and signed by the Zambia Chamber of Mines President GODWIN BEENE and Ministry of Mines Permanent Secretary, HAPENGA KABETA.
Dr. BEENE said the outcome positions the country to secure strong growth from the developments that are foreseen to follow the mining sector in the medium to long term.
He has since thanked President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA for affording the Chamber an opportunity to review some of the provisions of the BILL.
And Dr KABETA said that the outcome is a reflection of the Government’s continued commitment to genuine stakeholder engagement in policy formulation and legislative process.
He thanked the Zambia Chamber of Mines for their candid expression of their views on matters affecting the industry.
