
Zambia and Zimbabwe Sign Historic MoUs on Military Cooperation and Training
Zambia and Zimbabwe have signed two historical Memoranda of Understanding on Military Cooperation and Training as well as the Directing Staff Exchange Programme.
The MoU on Military Cooperation and Training will see the Zambia and Zimbabwe Defence Forces collaborate in training and securing their common border.
The second MoU will facilitate various groups of the defence and security establishments of the two countries to conduct benchmarking visits.
Acting Defence Minister Douglas Syakalima and Zimbabwe’s Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri signed the two MoUs.
This was at the conclusion of the 34th Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security in Victoria Falls Town, Zimbabwe.
Mr. Syakalima said Zambia is a good neighbor and will continue to support Zimbabwe in the promotion of peace in the two countries.
Mr. Syakalima says the two countries have a rich history and must work together to promote regional peace.
Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu says Zambia will continue supporting Zimbabwe during its tenure as chair of the Southern African Development Community to help achieve the regional body’s goals.
Zimbabwe’s Minister of State for National Security, Lovemore Matuke, said Zimbabwe will support Zambia and the SADC region’s candidate, Dr. Samuel Maimbo, to secure the African Development Bank (AfDB) presidency.
This is according to a joint statement issued to ZNBC News by Ministry of Defence Principal Public Relations Officer Paul Shalala and Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security Principal Public Relations Officer Mwala Kalaluka.
