Mwali, Mulwale Defend National Chess Titles
By Wilson Mulinda
International Chess Master CHITUMBO MWALI and Woman Candidate Master LUBUUTO MULWALE have retained their national chess championship titles.
This was during the Chess national championships, where 12 players qualified to the national team for 2025 and 2026.
And speaking after the finals, Chess Federation of Zambia CFZ President LESLIE CHIKUSE said the target is to strengthen the team to produce another grandmaster.
CHIKUSE said early preparation will help the team adjust for any upcoming event.
Meanwhile, National arbiter BENJAMIN MULENGA said the selection was done on merit and those that accumulated enough points made the final list.
And runner up MICHAEL KAOMA said his focus now is to prepare for the Chess Olympiads coming up later this year.
