The Zambian Scrabble National Team has won a bronze medal at the 2025 East, Central and Southern Africa – ECASA – Scrabble Championships held in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Scrabble Association of Zambia – SAZ- sent a four-man squad to the regional tournament, where they left a lasting impression with their style of play and near-historic upsets.
Team captain FRED KANSHAMBA led the charge alongside ISAAC MWAPE, LEVY MOONGA and JUSTIN CHANSA, whose collective efforts secured Zambia third place in the overall team standings.
Speaking to ZNBC Sports, SAZ Interim President CHIPIKA SIMANWE praised the team’s performance, singling out ISAAC MWAPE as Zambia’s best performer after he finished in 7th position individually.
SIMANWE has expressed optimism that the team will perform even better when Zambia hosts next year’s edition of the ECASA Championships, adding that the local hosting will give more players a chance to compete.
He has further revealed that the 2025 Scrabble National Championships are scheduled to take place at the end of May.
