ABSA Bank has pumped in K6.5 million for the 2025 ABSA tournament.
This year’s tournament will also see the winners pocket ONE-million Kwacha as Red Arrows enter the Cup title defence.
ABSA Bank Managing Director MIZINGA MELU says the 18th edition of the Cup will feature 21 teams, seven from the MTN Super league, four from the National division one and ten Provinces battle it out for the ultimate prize.
MELU says the tournament is scheduled to commence on March 15th, with the final taking place on May 16th, 2025.
Speaking in Lusaka during the launch of this year’s cup, MELU said the increase in the funding allocation demonstrates the bank’s commitment to supporting the growth of local clubs and empowering Zambia’s sports sector.
And Sports Minister ELVIS NKANDU expressed the Government’s desire to see the sports sector thrive.
NKANDU also commended the bank for the increase in funding and for up scaling the prize money to one million kwacha.
He said this in a speech delivered on his behalf by Director of Sports at the Ministry JOHN ZULU.
And Zambian Premier League Chief Executive Officer JOSEPH CHIMPAMPWE said the Bank’s partnership has helped in shaping the Country’s football.
