EV battery plant conducting tests

Commerce, Trade, and Industry Minister, CHIPOKA MULENGA says the Electric Vehicle battery plant is currently conducting trials on batteries.
The batteries are being manufactured by the Zambia Jiangxi Multi-facility Economic zone in Chibombo district.
Mr MULENGA says the batteries are expected to be on the market by January next year.
He made the announcement during the Zambia Association of Manufacturers -ZAM- 38th Annual General Meeting in Lusaka today.
The meeting also included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the ministry and the association, which aims to promote the growth of local industries
Mr. MULENGA said the manufacturing sector remains crucial to achieving Zambia’s Vision 2030, which aims to become a prosperous middle-income nation by 2030.
Meanwhile, ZAM President ASHU SAGAR said the manufacturing industry has seen a two point five percent growth despite the challenges the sector has faced.
And Proudly Zambia Chairperson KIM OTTEBY said the meeting provided an opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on collective achievements, address challenges, and shape the future of Zambia’s manufacturing sector.
