FAZ Electoral Appeals Committee Reverses Kamanga’s Sole Candidacy
By Wilson Mulinda
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) electoral appeals committee has reversed the declaration of Andrew Kamanga as the sole candidate for the March 29 election.
This follows the successful appeals of four presidential candidates, who are now eligible to challenge Kamanga in the election.
The four candidates are Francis Hafwiti, Emmanuel Munaile, Keith Mweemba, and Adrian Kashala.
This decision comes after the electoral committee initially ruled that the four were not eligible due to failure to meet various criteria.
FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga says the Electoral Appeals Committee presided over 72 cases filed by various candidates.
Kamanga says the successful appeal of the four appellants at the presidential level brings the number of candidates to five on the ballot.
In a statement issued to ZNBC News, Kamanga said the FIFA-approved electoral roadmap remains on course.
Meanwhile, Kamanga has advised candidates whose nominations had fallen through to use peaceful means of seeking recourse as provided for in the FAZ and FIFA statutes.
He says the incident that occurred this morning at Football House, where a prospective candidate and football administrator Pivoty Simwanza allegedly expressed his anger at the current FAZ President and secretariat staff, is unfortunate.
This is according to a statement issued by FAZ Communications Manager Sydney Mungala.
