Govt Assures Power Restoration for Lusaka’s Kanyama and Makeni Areas
By Caren Mwaka
The government has assured residents in Lusaka’s Kanyama and Makeni areas that power will be restored to all homes by the end of today.
However, the restoration of electricity supply will be limited to homes that are not directly connected to transformers in flooded areas within the two townships.
Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary for Electricity Arnold Simwaba says assessments are underway in selected areas that will be declared safe for electricity restoration.
Speaking during an assessment tour of flooded areas, Mr. Simwaba said the government will continue monitoring the situation to ensure power is restored in other affected areas.
Meanwhile, ZESCO Board Chairperson Vickson N’Cube says the power utility will maintain vigilance and shut down the supply in areas that experience further flooding.
He explains that this measure is necessary to protect lives and prevent electrical hazards in submerged homes.
Energy Regulation Board Chairperson James Banda has called for calm and is urging the public to remain patient as authorities work to manage the power situation.
