Government is building an ultra modern market shelter and 90 fireproof shops at Kitwe’s Chisokone market at a cost of over five million Kwacha .
Kitwe City Council Town Clerk PATRICK KAMBITA says 74 fireproof shops have already been completed out of the over 90 shops scheduled for construction.
Mr. KAMBITA told ZNBC News that once the Green market shelter is completed all the traders that were affected by the construction works will occupy the new shops while the one way road in Chisokone will be cleared.
And Kitwe District Commissioner LAWRENCE MWANZA who toured the Green market shelter construction site praised the two contractors for the quality works.
Mr. MWANZA is happy that the project that was once a source of confrontation between the local authority and the traders will provide a better trading environment.
Some of the traders that were affected in the Chisokone Market Shelter project have commended the local authority for the new fireproof shops that have been built.
Meanwhile the market shelter’s contractor Ruthco Engineering limited project Manager David MUKOLO said about eighty five percent of the market shelter is done and by next month the project should be ready for handover to the local authority.
