Govt imposes Fish ban
NAIS- Government has with immediate effect imposed the annual fishing ban on major rivers, lakes and swamps.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister PETER KAPALA says the ban comes into effect today December 1, 2024 to 28th February 2025.
Mr KAPALA says the ban is meant to allow fish to breed and multiply during the prescribed fish breeding season.
He says all kinds of fishing activities are prohibited on the Zambezi, Kafue, Chambishi, Lunga and Luapula Rivers.
The other prohibited water bodies include Lake Mweru, Lake Mweru Wantipa, Lake Bangweulu, Lake Lusiwashi, Lake Itezhi Tezhi, and Lukanga Swamps.
Mr KAPALA says his ministry will conduct patrols during the fishing ban and any fisherman, trader and transporter found abrogating the ban will face the law.
