Govt signs MOU to improve access to services in rural areas

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bridges to Prosperity to improve rural access to services and opportunities.
Bridges to Prosperity, a non-profit organisation, will work with Government and the private sector to improve transport connectivity and access in rural communities.
Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Permanent Secretary ALBERT MALAMA says the signing of the MoU marks a shared commitment to building a more inclusive, connected and empowered rural communities in Zambia.
In a speech read on his behalf by Director of Planning, Monitoring and Research AARON MUTALE Professor MALAMA said the construction of bridges under the partnership will open up rural areas by ensuring safe and reliable access across rivers and other natural barriers.
This was during the signing ceremony held in Lusaka.
And Bridges to Prosperity Country Director NACHILALA NKOMBO said the signing of the MoU represents a shared commitment by both parties towards the realization of the objectives of the 8th National Development Plan.
Meanwhile, Chief ISHIMA SANKENI, the 6th, of Zambezi District expressed happiness that the focus of the collaboration will NOT be in urban areas.
