
Govt targets one Gigawatt power output this year
(ZANIS) President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says the government is targeting to generate one Gigawatt of #power this year.
President HICHILEMA says this will help to address the immediate demand of energy in the country.
He has however, indicated that in the next five years, the government is aiming to generate ten Gigawatts of power.
President #HICHILEMA says the country is facing demand for power supply.
He says the country is currently experiencing a shortage of power induced by climate change.
President HICHILEMA said this when a leading #Chinese Solar Company Longi Green Energy Technology President JAMES JIN paid a courtesy call on him at State House.
Meanwhile, President HICHILEMA said the government is committed to promoting growth in the energy sector.
President HICHILEMA said the decision by the government to remove rigidities in the energy sector was to attract more players in the sector.
He explained that before implementing reforms in the energy sector, it was difficult to woo more investors to the sector.
President HICHILEMA told Longi Green #Energy Technology Company that the government is keen to see the firm invest in Zambia.
The Head of State said he wants the firm to be part of the solution to addressing the country’s power deficit.
President HICHILEMA said the government wants more investment into the country.
And speaking earlier, #Longi Green Energy Technology President, JAMES JIN said the company has the latest solar technology that can be used to address Zambia’s power deficit.
Mr. JIN said the solar to be generated by the company can be used in the mining and agriculture sectors.
He noted that Zambia has a lot of potential in generating energy using solar.
