Govt gives water utilities K5m each to improve water supply

Government has disbursed 55 million Kwacha to all eleven water utilities countrywide to improve water supply.
Water Development Minister COLLINS NZOVU says each of the utilities has received five million Kwacha to implement drought and cholera elimination projects.
Mr. NZOVU says some of the utilities have channeled the money towards boosting water production, drilling of commercial boreholes and procurement of meter readers to stop leakages.
Speaking when he made a Ministerial Statement in Parliament on the Drought Response, Mr. NZOVU also disclosed that government has awarded 10 contracts for the sinking of 160 commercial boreholes countrywide at the cost of 75 million kwacha.
Mr. NZOVU also disclosed that 31 million Kwacha from the Constituency Development Funds -CDF has been disbursed to water utilities to improve water supply.
