HH approves construction of Mbesuma Bridge
By Paul Shalala
President Hakainde Hichilema has approved the construction of Mbesuma Bridge to connect Muchinga and Northern Provinces.
The construction of Mbesuma Bridge has stalled for many years, and currently, people use a pontoon to cross the Chambeshi River, which connects the two provinces.
Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs, Levy Ngoma, says President Hichilema wants people in Northern and Muchinga Provinces to easily move and conduct business without challenges.
Mr. Ngoma says Mbesuma Bridge is very important as it also connects people in the two provinces.
Speaking upon arrival at Kasama Airport this morning ahead of his tour of Northern and Luapula Provinces, Mr. Ngoma also assured Zambians that the peace which characterized the Kawambwa parliamentary by-election last week will continue as long as President Hichilema is in State House.
Muchinga Province Minister, Henry Sikazwe, has called for unity in the ruling party as the 2026 General Elections come closer.
UPND Northern Province Chairman, Nathan Ilunga, has promised to deliver over 60 percent of presidential votes in 2026.
Mr. Ilunga said Northern Province beat Muchinga, Eastern, and Luapula Provinces by delivering 51 percent of votes for President Hichilema in 2021, and in 2026, the figure will be more than 60 percent.
