HH Calls for Faster GET FiT Rollout
By Sharon Siame
President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has called for speedy implementation of projects under the Global Energy Transfer Feed-in Tariff -GET FiT.
President HICHILEMA has expressed concern over delays in the programme’s rollout, saying energy is key to achieving the country’s economic growth goals.
He said this when a delegation led by German Ambassador to Zambia ANNE-WAGNER MITCHELL called on him at State House today to give an update on the GET FiT Programme.
And Ms. MITCHELL said that the broader scope of the GET FiT programme is to improve the framework conditions to attract further private investment in the energy sector.
She said the programme is there to facilitate competitive and transparent procurement of renewable energy.
Meanwhile, GET FiT Programme Director JUDY RAPHAEL said that the aim of GET FiT is to promote small to medium scale power production in Zambia and that the programme has now been extended to 2027 due to some delays.
The GET FiT programme was approved by Cabinet in 2015 and its implementation will enable ZESCO to purchase electricity at more competitive tariffs.
