President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is tomorrow expected in Angola for an official visit.
Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister MULAMBO HAIMBE says President HICHILEMA’s visit is at the invitation of his Angolan counterpart JOAO LOURENCO.
Mr. HAIMBE says during the visit, President HICHILEMA will participate in the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment Lobito Corridor Summit convened by Angola on the margins of the State Visit by United States of America President JOE BIDEN.
In an interview with ZNBC’s MASAUSO MKWAYAYA in Benguela Province of Angola, Mr. HAIMBE said the meeting will focus on the development of the Lobito Corridor, a critical regional infrastructure project aimed at enhancing trade and connectivity across Southern Africa.
Mr. HAIMBE adds that, the Summit, which is expected to be attended by the Democratic Republic of Congo and the United Republic of Tanzania, will celebrate and highlight progress on the development of the Lobito Trans-Africa Corridor and the partnership of the Lobito Corridor Consortium.
And Transport and Logistics Minister FRANK TAYALI said the Lobito Corridor project provides an alternative transportation route to the sea, unlocking economic opportunities through increased trade, investment and job creation.
Mr. TAYALI said the importance of the corridor extends beyond Zambia and plays a critical role in regional integration.
He said that the Lobito Corridor will be the most efficient on the continent, as it goes beyond the extractive industry to benefit sectors such as agriculture, energy, and telecommunications.
And Infrastructure and Urban Development Minister CHARLES MILUPI said the involvement of the United States of America, the European Union, and reputable financial institutions like the African Development Bank, speaks to the seriousness with which governments involved are approaching the project.
He further noted that the corridor will expand Zambia’s markets and improve trade with the Americas and the European Union.
Mr. MILUPI said President HICHILEMA has prioritized the Lobito Corridor as a tool to promote trade, regional integration, and economic growth.
