HH Urges Banks to Facilitate Diaspora Investments in Solar Energy
By Masauso Mkwayaya
President Hakainde Hichilema has urged banks to collaborate with pension institutions to develop a facility that enables Zambians in the diaspora to invest in solar energy projects.
President Hichilema says the facility should include clear guidelines on how Zambians abroad can invest in the energy sector.
He has further asked financial institutions to help the government explain the reforms that have lightened regulation in the energy sector to encourage investments.
Speaking at State House during a meeting with the Solar Energy Explosion Team, the President added that the guidelines should also provide detailed information on securing power purchase agreements.
He said Zambians, regardless of their location, should have the opportunity to participate in the country’s economic activities through investments.
President Hichilema has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure that information about the investment facility reaches as many Zambians in the diaspora as possible.
