The Independent Broadcasting Authority- IBA- has announced the opening of 32 new frequencies for new and existing Radio stations wishing to expand their coverage.
IBA Board Chairperson, CHIKOSOLA CHUULA says the Authority will invite the public including existing Radio Stations seeking to expand their broadcasting services to apply for new frequencies particularly for unserved and underserved areas.
Speaking at a Media briefing in Lusaka today Mr. CHUULA, said IBA will communicate details about the forthcoming advertisement including the application requirements, eligibility criteria and timelines on Tuesday, April, 15.
The available new frequencies are in North-western, Western, Central, Luapula, Northern and Eastern provinces.
And Mr. CHUULA said the Authority will not invite applications for television broadcasting services due to unavailability of additional capacity for Public and Private signal distributors to accommodate more television stations on their networks.
Meanwhile, IBA Vice Board Chairperson VICTORIA MUPWAYA said there is a legal process that IBA goes through to ensure compliance for dormant frequencies and those found wanting sanctioned.
