KCM thwarts solvent supplier’s attempt to supply water
By Masauso Mkwayaya
Konkola Copper Mines -KCM- has thwarted an attempt by one of its long-standing suppliers to deliver counterfeit solvents worth 64,000 U.S Dollars.
The incident occurred when a tanker containing the solvents was delivered to KCM’s
premises by the supplier’s driver, who is currently at large.
Independent testing by a reputable agency confirmed that the tanker contained water,
rather than solvents.
KCM Chief Operating Officer MALCOLM MEWETT says the mine takes the quality and safety of its raw materials seriously.
Mr. MEWETT says KCM will not tolerate any attempts to compromise its operations or put employees and assets at risk.
He says the mine is working closely with the police to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
He adds that KCM has strengthened its control mechanisms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
