Ministries Urged to Use Funds as Budgeted
By Masauso Mkwayaya
Finance and National Planning Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE has urged ministries and other implementing agencies to ensure that public funds are applied on budgeted programmes.
Dr. MUSOKOTWANE says this is to ensure that the intended developmental outcomes related to social welfare, women and youth empowerment, job creation through a thriving private sector, efficient public service delivery, and infrastructure development, among others, are attained.
He says public organisations have a duty to diligently offer services and products with the efficiency, effectiveness and profitability that meets the performance expectations of the people of Zambia.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by the Office of the Secretary to the Treasury.
And Dr. MUSOKOTWANE said the Ministry of Finance released 16.1 billion Kwacha to finance public service delivery, of which 4.7 billion was for the public service wage bill.
He said K3.8 billion was for debt service both domestic and external and arrears.
The Minister adds that K4.6 billion was released for transfers, subsidies and social benefits.
The Treasury also released K2.7 billion for implementation of various developmental programmes and for operations, and 326.9 million Kwacha for ongoing capital expenditure programmes.
