Nkana FC Secures Crucial 1-0 Win Over Green Eagles
By Mike Mwendachabe
Nkana Football Club has secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Green Eagles in Week 24 of the MTN Super League, courtesy of a 45th-minute goal from Clement Mwape.
The match, played at Nkana Stadium, saw the home team dominate proceedings, with Mwape’s goal coming from a corner kick delivered by Kedrick Mumba.
Nkana’s Moses Phiri came close to doubling the lead in the 60th minute, but his header missed the target.
The match took a dramatic turn in the 62nd minute when Green Eagles player Warren Kunda collided with Nkana goalkeeper Patrick Chooma and had to be attended to by the medics.
Chooma was eventually stretchered off and replaced by Chiluba Musonda.
Kunda was shown a red card in the same minute for a second bookable offense after kicking Chooma in the face when he had already secured the ball.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Green Eagles pushed hard for an equalizer, but Nkana’s defense held firm to secure the win.
The victory moves Nkana to 4th position on the log with 40 points, six points behind leaders Zesco United.
The win is a significant boost to Nkana’s hopes of playing in CAF competitions next season.
