By Hannock Kasama
Two suspected wizards are tomorrow expected to appear before the LUSAKA Magistrates Court for commencement of trial in a matter where they are charged with practicing super natural power.
The two, LEONARD PHIRI 43 of SINDA District and JASTEN MABULESSE, a MOZAMBICAN are also slapped with the charge of possessing charms.
Mr. PHIRI and Mr. MABULESSE have pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing charms but denied allegations of practicing super natural powers.
Practicing Super Natural Powers is defiant to Section five of the Witchcraft Act Chapter 90 of the Laws of Zambia.
Mr. PHIRI and Mr. MABULESSE took plea on December 23, 2024 before LUSAKA Magistrate FINE MAYAMBU.
It is alleged that Mr. PHIRI and Mr. MABULESSE between November 22 and 23, 2024 possessed charms and pretended to have possession of supernatural powers.
Meanwhile, The Judiciary has rescinded its decision to broadcast live court proceedings in the case.
Judiciary of Zambia Deputy Director – Corporate Communication, KALUMBA SLAVIN says the trial, which starts tomorrow, will however proceed in open court.
Ms. SLAVIN says members of the public and media houses will continue to have access in accordance with established procedures governing court hearings.
