Police Confiscate Illegally Manufactured Drinks in Kabwe
Police have confiscated drinks that were illegally manufactured under poor sanitary conditions at a house in Kabwe’s Kasanda Mine Township.
Central Province Police Commissioner Charity Munganga says the family behind the production of the drinks has no legal documents authorizing the production of the drinks.
Ms. Munganga disclosed that 28 cases of 5-liter containers of pineapple fruit juice, 6 cases of orange juice, 28 cases of 2.5-liter pineapple juice, and 6 cases of 5-liter orange juice were seized.
This was during an exercise conducted yesterday with the Kabwe Municipal Council and the District Health Office.
Ms. Munganga says police will work with the council and Ministry of Health to ensure that people behind the illegal activity are held accountable.
Kabwe Municipal Council Director of Public Health, Christopher Mtonga, said the juice will undergo laboratory tests as it may contain ingredients that could cause cancer.
District Health Director, Evaristo Chanda, is concerned that the conditions under which the juice was manufactured could lead to an increase in diarrheal cases.
