Probe continued illegal mining – KABUSWE
By Sharon Siame
Mines and Minerals Development Minister PAUL KABUSWE has called for an urgent interrogation of reasons behind the continued illegal mining in the country.
Mr. KABUSWE says this is despite Government putting in place measures to curb the vice and Security Officers being deployed to man the Mines where illegal mining activities are occurring.
He says Government will continue to put in place stringent measures to address illegal mining and that it wants small scale miners to be formalised so that they engage in safe mining.
Mr. KABUSWE said this during his closing address to the 2024 Mining and Investment Insaka in Lusaka today.
He said the Insaka has demonstrated that Zambia’s mining sector is ready to diversify, adapt and grow.
And Ministry of Mines Permanent Secretary HAPENGA KABETA said Government will endeavor to implement strategies to motivate small scale enterprises to produce more.
Meanwhile, Sub-Saharan Gemstone Exchange President PHESTO MUSONDA described the 2024 Mining and Investment Insaka as a success.
The next Insaka will be held from October, 6th to 10th 2025.
