Solwezi Airport Faces Closure Due to Runway Gully
By Lupindula Mwewa
Solwezi Airport is on the verge of being shut down following a gully that has formed near the threshold of the runway.
Zambia Airport Corporation (ZAC) Solwezi Airport Manager, Andyson Katongo, says the gully poses a hazard to the safety of planes and passengers.
Mr. Katongo says if left unchecked, the airport will have to be shut down as planes will no longer be able to land.
Speaking during a spot check by Solwezi Central Member of Parliament, Stafford Mulusa, Mr. Katongo called on the government to quickly look into the issue.
Mr. Mulusa promised to engage stakeholders in order to prevent the gully from expanding.
