Swimmers set new records in National League Gala

Over 15 national records were broken during the 2024/2025 Swimming Season First National League Gala.
Outstanding among the performances was seven-year-old KEVIN HAABAZOKA who broke two records in the 100 meter backstroke and the 200 meter freestyle categories.
In the 100 meter Backstroke KEVIN smashed the 2016 record set by JOSHUA MULENGA after clocking 1 minute and 42 seconds while in the 200 meter category he clocked 3 minutes and 15 seconds to dethrone ASHER LUNGU ‘S 2023 record.
And KIRA HAABAZOKA, who was the only Zambian Swimmer, with the most national records last season, clocked 2 minutes 48 seconds to set a new record in the girls 12 years individual Medley set by MIA PHIRI at the zone four Swimming challenge in 2016.
Another outstanding record broken was the 2016 set by JADE PHIRI during the 3rd league Gala in the 9 years girls 200 Meter freestyle category.
This is after TAMIKA NJOVU clocked 2 minutes and 51 seconds to become the new national record holder.
Speaking to ZNBC Sports News in an interview, KEVIN HAABAZOKA said his target is to hold the most national records in his category an inspiration that comes from his Sister KIRA.
And KIRA HAABAZOKA said her aim is to swim for the country at regional events having attained the age to compete in competitions outside the country.
