Tazama adopts chemical to improve diesel transport
By MacPherson Mukuka
Tazama Pipelines has introduced a drag reducing agent –DRA- to facilitate the smooth and more efficient flow of diesel.
The drag reducing agent is a chemical reagent that reduces friction in the pipeline and increases the movement of gasoil.
The drag reducing agent has increased the daily pumping capacity of diesel from 2. 8 million litres to 3.6 million.
Speaking during the launch of the drag reducing agent in Dar es Salaam, Energy Minister MAKOZO CHIKOTE said the project represents the governments of Zambia and Tanzania’s commitment to reforming the petroleum sub-sector.
Mr. CHIKOTE said the introduction of the chemical reagent to the pipeline will also reduce pressure on the energy sector regarding the transportation of diesel.
And Tanzania’s Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary FELCHESMI MRAMBA said his Government is ready to work with the Management to continue improving the operations of the Tanzania Zambia Mafuta pipeline – TAZAMA.
Meanwhile Tazama Board Chairperson PETER MUMBA disclosed that the project cost 900 thousand dollars, which was entirely funded by Tazama.
Meanwhile, Tazama Pipeline Managing Director DAVISON THAWETHE said all trials, conducted by local engineers from Zambia and Tanzania, were efficient and proved that implementation could proceed.
