There is sufficient fuel for the country-ERB
By Paul Shalala
The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has assured the nation that there is sufficient fuel for the country despite sporadic stock outs at some filling stations.
ERB Acting Public Relations Manager Musonda Chibulu says that as of Friday, 503 out of a total of 606 filling stations countrywide had both petrol and diesel, and only 14 filling stations had no stock at all.
Mr. Chibulu said in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka that the nation must not panic because there is sufficient fuel for the foreseeable future.
He explained that what is being interpreted as a fuel shortage are logistical challenges faced by some Oil Marketing Companies in transporting fuel to Zambia.
Mr. Chibulu says some companies have opted to use alternative routes to avoid paying 25 thousand dollars as a refundable transit tax in Zimbabwe, which has caused logistical challenges.
He disclosed that another logistical challenge cited is the delay in bringing in petroleum products through the ports of Beira in Mozambique and Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania due to increased congestion at the loading ports.
