“Women only account for 27 percent of the workforce in the manufacturing sector”
Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Chipoka Mulenga says women only account for 27 percent of the workforce in the manufacturing sector with a staggering ratio of 1 woman employed for every 3 men.
Speaking at the Zambia Association of Manufacturers -ZAM- fifth Women in Industry Masterclass, Mr Mulenga said this trend is not only detrimental to women but also hinders the country’s economic prosperity.
And, ZAM Chief Executive Officer, Muntanga Lindunda, stressed the importance of women’s access to finance and markets to thrive in their respective fields.
Meanwhile, Proudly Zambian Campaigns Chairperson, Kim Otteby highlighted the masterclass’s goal of breaking down barriers to women’s participation in leadership roles.
