The World Anti-Doping Agency has lifted the ban, which was imposed on Zambian female Boxer, CATHERINE PHIRI.
PHIRI failed her test from a sample taken from her WBC Interim Super Bantamweight title fight, against KUNDAKWASHE CHIWANDIRE of Zimbabwe on February 26, 2022, in Lusaka.
Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions Operations Manager, CHRISTOPHER MALUNGA has announced the lifting of the ban during a media briefing in Lusaka today.
MALUNGA has explained that CATHERINE had taken a substance to lose weight, without knowing that it had been recently introduced to be one of the prohibited substances in boxing.
He said, now that the Boxer has been officially cleared, she will have one last international ceremonial fight before she retires.
MALUNGA said the retirement fight is planned for December, 2024.
And speaking at the same event, former WBC bantamweight title-holder, CATHERINE PHIRI thanked all Zambians for the support during the time she was serving a ban.
PHIRI, who is also a full Lieutenant in the Zambia Air Force -ZAF-, says she is happy to be back for one last fight, adding that she wants to end with a win.
She has also urged young female boxers to work hard and combine sport with school.
