
World Bank Pledges Support for Zambia’s Energy

The #World Bank has pledged continued financial and technical assistance for the next phase of mini grid expansion and renewable #energy in Zambia.
World Bank Country Manager for Zambia ACHIM FOCK says it is imperative to continue to scale up investments in the energy sector, especially mini-grids and other distributed renewable energy systems.
Mr FOCK was speaking during the 8th #Mini Grid Action Learning Event being hosted in Lusaka.
Meanwhile, Energy Minister #MAKOZO CHIKOTE said Zambia currently has 19 Mini Grids, a significant shift from two in the last five years.
Mr. CHIKOTE said government targets to have 200 solar mini-grids operational by 2030, ensuring that every rural district has access to clean, affordable, and reliable electricity.
He said access to #electricity in Zambia has risen from 30- percent in 2017 to nearly 50- percent.
And #COMESA Secretary General CHILESHE KAPWEPWE said energy remains a priority to transform economies and better the living standards of the people.
Ms. KAPWEPWE said Mini grids play a key role in increasing access to electricity.
