
World Bank,COMESA sign $2.5bn digitalisation agreement
The World Bank and COMESA have signed a funding agreement worth 2.5 Billion United States Dollars to implement the component of the inclusive digitalisation for Eastern and Southern African project -IDEA.
World Bank Senior Digital Development Specialist, CECILIA GILRED, says the project is a long term commitment by the World Bank to accelerate digitalisation across Eastern and Southern Africa.
Ms GILRED said this when she addressed the media in Lusaka today that the project, which was approved by the board of Directors of the World Bank in 2024, will cover a duration of eight years.
COMESA Telecommunication Officer, LEONARD CHITUNDU, explained that COMESA is committed to creating an enabling environment to accelerate digital access in the region.
