Zambia Athletics to train 30 athletes for international events
By Chansa Kunda
Zambia Athletics (ZA) says it will train an additional 30 athletes in preparation for regional and global events in 2025.
ZA President, Elias Mpondela, says of that number, 20 will be selected in preparation for the 2025 World Athletics Championship qualifiers and the 2028 Olympic Games.
Mpondela says the expansion in athlete selection is aimed at giving the association a wider pool to select from, as opposed to depending on Muzala Samukonga and a few others to always bring medals home.
He told ZNBC Sport News that the athletes will be trained at the Chongwe Silverest running tracks starting next year.
Mpondela said 2025 will be an exciting year as the plan is to ensure that athletes taking part in major events perform well and mint more medals.
