Zambia banned from continental Parasports
Zambia has been banned from participating in Continental Parasport games.
This follows a 23,200 United States dollar outstanding participation fee owed to the All Africa Games Parasport for the year 2023 by Zambia National Wheelchair Basketball Association-ZNWBA.
ZNWBA President DAVID MUKWASA disclosed this in an interview with ZANIS on the sidelines of the National Wheelchair Basketball Team’s training session, in preparation for the Zimbabwe Independence wheelchair tournament where they have been invited to play.
MUKWASA also revealed that the team requires 76,000 Kwacha to participate in the Zimbabwe Independence wheelchair tournament.
He has also bemoaned the obsolete state of wheelchairs used by the team which hinders their qualification to international tournaments.
And, The Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities has, however, assured the association that the concerns will be addressed by government.
In a separate interview at the same event, ZAPD Director General FRANKSON MUSUKWA pledged to table the issues before the relevant authorities.
He has since called on the corporate world and other stakeholders to support the team.
Meanwhile, Wheelchair Basketball Coach SOWELL KAMPONJE says the preparations for the Zimbabwe Independence are on course.
He is confident that the team will defend their title from last year’s victory.
