Zambia Qualify for CHAN after Mozambique’s Withdrawal
The Chipolopolo Boys have secured automatic qualification for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament following Mozambique’s withdrawal.
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) General Secretary, Reuben Kamanga, says the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially informed FAZ of Zambia’s qualification.
Kamanga noted that while the Chipolopolo would have preferred to earn their spot through playing the two scheduled matches, the association is still pleased that the team will participate in next year’s CAF tournaments.
He added that the team will now shift its focus to preparations for the tournament, which is set to take place in February next year.
Kamanga has urged the technical bench to develop a comprehensive training program to ensure the team is ready for the competition in East Africa.
He also revealed that the team plans to play several friendly matches as part of their preparations for CHAN.
The 2025 CHAN tournament will be hosted by Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya.
This is according to a statement issued by FAZ Communications Manager, Sydney Mungala.
