
ZESCO Partners with 29 Solar Developers

ZESCO has signed power purchase agreements with 29 presidential solar initiative developers, micro-generation developers and developer-initiated projects.
This will lead to the generation of 332 megawatts of electricity from solar power.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Lusaka today, Energy Minister MAKOZO CHIKOTE said the initiative marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and resilient energy future for Zambia.
Mr. CHIKOTE explained that the initiative integrates small-scale solar power projects ranging from100 kilowatts to 5- megawatts into the national grid.
And Zesco Managing Director JUSTINE LOONGO said that the Company will work closely with all the developers to ensure smooth grid integration, technical support, and compliance with national electricity standards.
Meanwhile, Representative of the Independent Power Producers JACQUELINE PHIRI thanked Government for incorporating private players in the generation of power.
Among the Independent Power Producers that have signed include Agro-Investments Fuel Zambia, China Jiangsu International Limited, Techmasters Zambia and the University of Zambia.
Others are Hakemi General Dealers and Laato Energy Solutions.
