President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has directed the Zambia Police Service and other security agencies to carry out comprehensive investigations into the brutal killing of ENELESS HELLEN KAMUTUMBE in Kalumbila District.
Ms. KAMUTUMBE was on Friday attacked by a mob in Kalumbila District of North-Western Province following allegations of witchcraft.
President HICHILEMA says every individual responsible must be identified, arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
He has described such extrajudicial violence as a heinous crime and says it will be treated accordingly.
President HICHILEMA says suspected offences or misdemeanours should always be reported to law enforcement agencies, rather than being dealt with by individuals.
In a statement released to ZNBC news by State House Chief Communications Specialist CLAYSON HAMASAKA, President HICHILEMA said such actions do not reflect how the Republic of Zambia operates.
The President also expressed concern that the appalling act appears to have been carried out largely by young people.
He said strong family values form the foundation of a vibrant and cohesive nation, and urged parents and guardians to instil these principles in their children.
President HICHILEMA has extended his deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ms. KAMUTUMBE, saying she deserved better and that her memory calls for justice.
He has assured the family that justice will be done.
