Tayali Leads Regional Bikers to Livingstone for Road Safety and Tourism Rally

Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali has arrived in Livingstone at the helm of a convoy of motorbike riders and enthusiasts from Zambia and across Southern Africa.

The group is participating in a road safety awareness campaign and the Mosi Oa Tunya Rally, scheduled for this weekend.

During a stopover interview in Choma, Mr. Tayali emphasized the importance of promoting road safety among Zambia’s growing community of motorbike riders.

He noted that biking is emerging as a popular mode of transport, but rising accident rates—some fatal—highlight the need for increased awareness and responsible riding.

The Minister, who completed a six-hour journey on his 2024 Harley-Davidson motorbike, described biking as not only a practical form of transport but also a valuable sport that can foster community and tourism.

Tourism Minister Rodney Sikumba, who welcomed the riders in Livingstone, said the rally will also raise awareness about human-animal conflict in the region, a key issue in Zambia’s tourism capital.

Ride Captain Luck Mawere confirmed that all bikers arrived safely, thanks to strict adherence to safety protocols and support from Road Safety Officers stationed along the route.

The rally has drawn participants from Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, South Africa, and Zimbabwe underscoring its regional significance.
