HH Invites Protesters to State House Dialogue

By Masauso Mkwayaya

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has invited organisations planning to protest against the Constitution Amendment process to meet inside State House for a structured, solution-oriented dialogue.

President HICHILEMA says this format will allow for immediate clarification, feedback, and a more constructive path forward for the benefit of all Zambians.

He says State House is the people’s house, a national institution open to public engagement.

President HICHILEMA notes that meaningful, people-driven reform is best advanced through respectful dialogue in a setting committed to listening and responding, rather than through street protests.

The President says Zambia is a constitutional democracy anchored in the rule of law and the protection of civil liberties, including freedom of expression and assembly.

He says that under the oversight of the Technical Committee on Constitutional Amendments, a comprehensive nationwide consultation process has been underway.

President HICHILEMA adds that the Committee—composed of eminent Zambians from diverse professional, faith-based, traditional and civil society backgrounds—has been mandated to engage widely with citizens, civil society, religious and traditional leaders, and all other stakeholders.

He says the consultations have reached all provinces, inviting submissions from the public and ensuring that the views of youths, women, persons with disabilities and other marginalised groups are included.

This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by State House Chief Communications Specialist CLAYSON HAMASAKA.
