The Electoral Commission of Zambia –ECZ- says it has registered one million, six hundred and fifteen thousand, nine hundred and twenty-two new voters during the recently concluded mass voter-registration exercise.
This figure falls short of the Commission’s target of 3.5 million.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, ECZ Chairperson MWANGALA ZALOUMIS said the new registrations bring the provisional national voter population to eight million, eight hundred and sixty-one thousand, nine hundred and eighteen.
Ms. ZALOUMIS added that inspection of the 2026 Provisional Register of Voters will take place in February 2026 at all polling stations across the country.
She noted that the exercise will allow registered voters to confirm and verify their details before the Commission certifies the final register on 30th April 2026.
Meanwhile, ECZ Chief Electoral Officer BROWN KASARO stated that of the newly registered voters, 766,742 are male while 849,180 are female.
Mr. KASARO described this distribution as encouraging for broad participation in the country’s electoral process.
