Over 12,000 tax payers have so far registered on the Smart Invoice system from the time the scheme was launched in March this year.
Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA- Commissioner General, DINGANI BANDA says of that number, over 100,000 invoices have been transmitted translating to a value of 7.2 billion kwacha.
Mr. BANDA says of this amount, the authority is expected to collect over 400 million Kwacha tax.
Speaking during a media briefing on the update of the smart invoice, Mr. BANDA said with a population of over 21,000 registered on Value Added Tax -VAT, only over 8,000 are active taxpayers.
Mr. BANDA said ZRA has also maintained the deadline of which taxpayers are required to be registered on the Smart Invoice as July 1, with a grace period of up to September 30, 2024 before enforcement of penalties.
And ZRA Director Data Analytics, YVONNE MWANZA said the system is a key initiative towards sealing revenue leakages and improving service delivery in tax administration.
