Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Commander, Lieutenant General Oscar Nyoni, has reaffirmed ZAF’s commitment to the development of sports in the country.
He noted that ZAF sponsors more than 16 sporting disciplines under the Red Arrows umbrella, including golf, football, rugby, and netball.
Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony for the Air Force Day Golf Tournament, Lieutenant General Nyoni said these programmes contribute significantly to sports and youth development in Zambia. He explained that the initiatives provide young people with opportunities to uplift their livelihoods while producing athletes who excel both locally and internationally.
He congratulated all winners, adding that the tournament fostered lasting memories and friendships.
Lieutenant General Nyoni also underscored ZAF’s broader role in national development and food security, highlighting its active participation in medical evacuations and emergency response beyond safeguarding Zambia’s skies.
Meanwhile, Red Arrows Golf Club Chairperson Colonel Sydney Sichimata thanked the Air Force for its continued support to the sport.
Colonel Kenny Nawa, who emerged champion of the 2026 Air Force Day Golf Tournament, emphasized the importance of maintaining an active golf club, saying it helps personnel remain fit and healthy.
The prize-giving ceremony, held at Chamba Valley Officers’ Mess in Lusaka, saw several golfers receive awards for their performances.
