Swedish Director General for Trade Policy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Camilla Mellander says the European Union -EU- supports the Lobito corridor because it will boost regional connectivity and economic growth.
Ms. Mellander says Sweden’s success is built on collaboration, innovation and sustainability and that the country is committed to supporting Zambia’s development goals.
She said this during the official opening of the 3-day EU-Zambia Lobito Corridor Business Forum in Chongwe today.
And Finnish Under Secretary of State Pasi Hellman noted the importance of global cooperation and strong partnerships in achieving sustainable development.
Mr. Hellman says many Finnish Companies are already present in Zambia, supporting the country’s goal to produce three million tons of copper.
Meanwhile, Czech Republic Deputy Minister Jiri Kozak said that Czech Companies are ready to bring innovative solutions that will create sustainable impact and employment.
Mr. Kozak noted that the Lobito Corridor will boost regional trade, diversify exports and better connect Zambia to global markets.
Speaking during the same event, Zambia Development Agency -ZDA- Director General Albert Halwampa explained that there are various investment opportunities along the Lobito Corridor, particularly in the mining, agriculture and energy sectors.
Mr. Halwampa urged European Investors to take advantage of Zambia’s mineral endowments and invest in the mineral value chains.
He said the country has a focus on producing electric vehicles batteries and accessories, with the potential for future manufacturing of electric motor vehicles in Zambia.
And Head of the Presidential Delivery Unit Kusobile Kamwambi said the Forum aims to support logistics, digital and agribusiness investments.
Ms. Kamwambi said the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lobito Corridor railway project is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026 and that the project is still on track to achieve the milestone.
She further said that African Development Bank has indicated readiness to provide 500 million dollars for Corridor interventions, including supporting road constructions and agro-processing plants.
